Becky's Mask Tutorial Times Two

We will be making 2 masks during this tutorial. The first mask is going to be made from a picture. You can use the picture I have included. Or choose one of your own. It can be anything you feel would make an interesting mask. a Photo, a watercolor, It doesn't matter if its brightly colored. A mask can be made out of anything you can open in psp. the second mask we will make will be a mask from scratch made with the tools inside PSP. Lets begin:

1. Open your image inside PSP.
2. Resize your image to as close to 400x400
as you can. (I find this size works well and not
to big to save.As I have a mega amount in my
mask folder!) LOL
3.Go Image> grayscale.
4. Go Effects>edge effects>enhance more.
5. Name your mask saving it as a .jpg to your mask folder, or if you prefer make a folder for your new masks and save them there, to be opened and used as a "new mask layer".
TIP: a mask should be clear and sharp for a good effect
on a project.
so if you are using the image I provided you have a clear sharp mask ready to use.
lets test it. minimize your mask and:
A. Open a new transparent 500x500.
B. Flood fill with any color you like.
C. Go Layer>New Mask Layer>From Image select your mask.

D. Layer> Merge> Merge group.
Add a layer send to bottom and flood fill with a different color. now you can see
how well your mask works.
here is mine..I used the colors tan and Black.

OK now lets make our own mask from scratch shall we?
1. Open a new transparent 400x400.
2. Choose 2 colors one for your foreground color and the other for your background color. any color will do its up to you!! (for best results use 1 light color and 1 dark color.)
3. For this project choose gradient and use the foreground gradient combining your 2 colors. (I am setting my angle to 45 with 1 repeat but you can make yours to suit you..)
4. Flood fill your 400x400.
5. Go Effects >Geometic effect and choose prospective horizontal. use settings:

6.Using your magic wand hold down your shilft key and select both black areas.
INVERT.
7. Go Effects> texture effects>weave use these settings:

8. Select none
9. go Image> grey scale
10. go Layers> New adjustment layer> Invert at these settings:

11. Merge All
12.effects> edge effects >enhance more.
13. save and name your mask as a jpg
Now test your results the same as to first one we did. Like I said you can make a mask from anything!!
Hope you enjoyed making masks with me..if you have any questions just ask and lets see some of your own masks!!
